Vaughan Soccer Club History

The Vaughan Soccer Club Inc. has been an active participant in the Maple and Concord communities within the City of Vaughan since 1982. The Club originally was founded under the name of "Concord Jets", a name that is still part of the Vaughan Soccer Club today. In 1986, the name "Concord Jets" was officially replaced with the current name, "Vaughan Soccer Club Inc". When this name change occurred, the club had already committed to various competitive leagues under the old name of "Concord Jets"; therefore the club did not start to officially use the "Vaughan Soccer Club Inc." name until the following year in 1987.

Beginning with only 100 players and eight co-ed house league teams, the Club has since grown immensely over the years. In 2010, the Club reached a new high in registration numbers with approximately 3000 enrolled members. The Club houses 37 representative teams, ranging from the ages of 8 to 18 in the youth division, with approximately 400 youth members playing competitive soccer year round. In addition, the club also has men's and women's teams in the senior competitive and recreational divisions.

The Vaughan Soccer Club is the home of six Ontario Cup Championships, one Canadian National Championship, numerous other league distinctions and tournament championships, and a full boys and girls youth and senior programs. The Vaughan Soccer Club prides itself on the extensive achievements of its members.

In 1986, the Vaughan Soccer Club was incorporated as an organization for non-profit. The Club currently draws its revenue from several sources: membership registration, fund-raising events, and sponsorships. The Club is governed by its Constitution, Rules and Regualtions and is run by an elected group of Directors that provide the stability and continuity required to meet the needs of its membership and the discipline of soccer. In 1998, the Club hired a part-time professional Director of Coaching & Player Development to help run and build its youth programs. In 2002, this part- time professional technical trainer became a full time club employee. The Club's rapid growth and desire to increase the development of quality programs created the need for this position and as a result, the club hired a professional coach/player with an extensive technical background to take on this role. The Vaughan Soccer Club is very proud to recognize that this technical trainer is also the Canadian National Assistant Coach for the U19 men's team, and the head coach for the York University team. The Club has also hired one office administrator and several part-time youth trainers to facilitate its growth and the development of quality programs.

The Club and its members have a commitment to provide the best quality service and to develop its programs to meet the growing needs of its membership and the community, as well as the discipline of soccer. In 1996, the Club expanded its programs by offering indoor house league during the winter season under the direction of the Board of Directors. By 2009, this indoor house league program had grown to become the largest indoor program offered by any individual Club in the City of Vaughan.

Although the Club has standards of quality and distinction rooted in its tradition, the Directors also recognize the need to continue progressing and moving ahead. The Vaughan Soccer Club has maintained the same colors (blue, red and white), in its competitive uniform since it's founding. Recently however, the Club adopted the "Azzurri" nickname, which provides a unified slogan within the Club with which all teams and players can identify. Our Club Crest is also very similar to our Canadian National team.

The success and growth of the Club's programs relies on the strength and commitment of its membership and supporters. The Club's Board of Directors and the majority of Club participants and organizers work on a volunteer basis. In exchange for their time and commitment, the membership takes pride in being a part of a professional and successful organization. The Vaughan Soccer Club is a true ambassador to the fulfillment of community participation and a partner in the growth and development of our youth, and the sport of soccer.
