This team consists of members of Vaughan Azzurri 1992 boys(who won Ontario cup) and 1991 boys (who won OYSL). With these two teams combined they have managed to play some attractive soccer and knock out three powerful teams during their Ontario Cup run. This team currently posts a 19-2-1 record during all competition.
This past Sunday Vaughan Azzurri played against London AEK who was the defending champions and reached the finals three times during the past four years.
Very few people gave these young men any chance against London. Vaughan was also missing four key players due to injury as well. Game started at a promising high pace and the game went back and forth. London managed to score in the first half and took this lead into half. Vaughan came out flying into second half and showed belief and courage and quickly tied up the game with a goal from Jean Paul Piacente.
Vaughan continued to pile on pressure and produced the best chance of the game by Franco Ruscetta but London goal keeper managed to make a huge save. Vaughan continued and finally got their goal in 81st minute by Andy Quantanilla.
However, London came right back and managed to score a goal from a rare Vaughan error and the game finished with a 2-2 score.
The game went immediately to penalties and London capitalized on a Vaughan miss and won 4-3.
Although, all players and coaches were disssapointed with the final result, these young men showed they can play against the best teams in the province. They will continue to fight to win the league and look forward for revenge in 2012.
This was also a special day as the team managed to fund raise some cash for one of their key members Dushawn Watson. Dushawn got seriously hurt during a soccer game earlier in May and had been in the hospital for over three months. He had broken his neck through a malicious tackle and has been fighting hard to get back to his feet. Dushawn exemplifies our team attitude and never quits and has been recently discharged from the hospital and is currently continuing to recover with his hard work and passion for life.
We will be looking to host additional fund raising events in order to help with some physiotherapy costs.
For more information or if you are interested in supporting by donating toward Dushawn then please contact or head coach, Patrice Gheisar @ 416.318.2409 or click here to send an email message.
